So it's summer, and I haven't posted on here in ages. I took a little break from drawing for a couple of weeks as I felt burnt out after school ended. Then I went to NY for a week which was absolutely awesome, I'll have some photo's of that up soon. I just need to edit some of them slightly. I went to NY with my mom, which was really cool because she served as my tour guide around all the art museums. I got to see all my favourite art in person! I particularly enjoyed all the color field paintings, as well as the Surrealists work, which is my favourite of all time. I even bought myself a Salvador Dali book at the museum! So after NY I returned to Savannah and jumped right into my course.
I am taking Poster Illustration this quarter, and our first project was a movie poster. We got to choose any movie that we wanted, and we had to design a poster for it. We got given just over a week to do it, so it was a decent amount of time. For the first project I chose Creep, a British horror movie about an inbred guy who lives in the Underground. He captures people and operates on them etc. It's a pretty cool movie, definitely not for the squeamish.
Below is the original poster for the movie which I like a lot, followed by my finished poster. I am happy with what I came up with, I do wish that I had extended the arm off the page. Maybe a revision is in order when I get some time.
For the next project we had to do a poster for the movie "Died Young Stayed Pretty", a film by Eileen Yaghoobian. It's a movie about rock posters and the artists who create them. I am trying to be more inventive with my illustrations. I really love Surrealism so am trying to take as much as I can from that. Below is my finalised sketch for the project, followed by the color mock up that I will be using. I like to figure out the colors in Photoshop first before I dive into the watercolors.
