Zombiefied!

I haven't updated in a while and I apologize for that, but now I finally have something worthy of posting. This is the finished product of the first project in my Advertising class. We had to design four sides of a tissue box, these images had to relate to tissues. I chose to show the use of tissues for someone going through the stages of turning into a zombie. I used my friend Bartos as the template for the zombie. I'm really happy with how it turned out and it looks even better in person.

Here are the images for each side of the box:

And here are 4 images of the tissue box itself. Sorry for the not so great photos. I need to get me some better quality lights.

So that's it for now, for our next project we're going to be drawing some dinosaurs!

I will soon have some illustrations for my book project to upload. I've been doing the storyboard and character desings up until now. Now I can finally dive into the illustrations and final text design.

Until then,

Cheerio!

Fumes

So I finished my new piece today. I'm stoked with how it came out. This was my first time actually using the masking fluid I bought over 2 months ago. Below are some of the pictures I took during the process.

This is the drawing with the masking fluid over it. I painted  over the paper outside of the smoke with rubber cement so the ink wouldn't go all over it.

Covered every surface with a towel so I was free to throw around the ink!

This is after I have finished all the ink work, next is to remove all the masking fluid and rubber cement.

This is the finished piece, I added in the shadow with a graphite pencil.

Hope you like it!

New Project!

I have decided to turn my attention to a t-shirt design that I have been thinking about for a while. I saw some cool looking factory chimneys with steam billowing out of them on our recent road trip, and wanted to do a t-shirt design inspired by that. So I drew up a sketch while watching TV last week and am now diving into the final piece. The sketch is below, the shirt will be pretty similar to this.

Throwing Around Some Paint

I painted this skateboard deck yesterday and today as a gift for someone I'll be seeing in a few days. I just bought a cheap board from Target and took everything off. I then used gesso to create a white base. Then started splashing on some colors! All the colors are Acrylic Inks. Below are pictures of most of the stages of the process., I just threw on colors in layers. Letting them dry in between coats. I've been wanting to paint a deck for a while so I'm stoked I was able to get the chance to do it now. The black ink is also India Ink, I used an ink brush pen for all the ink work. I'm happy with how it went overall, I didn't think it was going to be quite as dark but I'm not too phased.

Hearty Brew

Just finished my last piece for the poster class. We had to create a self promotional poster for a theoretical solo show. I wanted to create something that would be attention getting without being too over the top. Below is the finished piece:

Third Poster Finished.

I finished the Nuclear Feeding piece this morning. I spent yesterday inking it. I had a few days so I took my time with it. My next poster is to be autobiographical, we have to represent ourselves in an illustration. I have no idea how to approach that one, I definitely don't want to do anything lame. Well, anyway, here is the finished piece!

New Work!

4 new pieces have been uploaded to my Personal Illustration page on my website. Go check it out here!

Sketching in NY City.

During my time in NY I had a little bit of time to sketch. I ended up coming up with this flowing pattern, and repeated it as clouds. I really like how this turned out so I used the clouds as hair in another of my illustration entitled Died Young Stayed Pretty.

I will more than likely be adding another page to my website soon. More than likely it will be another gallery page dedicated purely to posters I have done.

Atomic Bomb!

For my next project in class we have been told to create a social awareness poster, we were given a number of topics. My choice being Nuclear Disaster, as I thought it would best suit what I like to draw. I had come up with a few thumbnails, and have made up my mind as to what I'll be doing. Below is the very first line work on the final illustration. Mother and child in a nuclear disaster breastfeeding.

Summer Time!

So it's summer, and I haven't posted on here in ages. I took a little break from drawing for a couple of weeks as I felt burnt out after school ended. Then I went to NY for a week which was absolutely awesome, I'll have some photo's of that up soon. I just need to edit some of them slightly. I went to NY with my mom, which was really cool because she served as my tour guide around all the art museums. I got to see all my favourite art in person! I particularly enjoyed all the color field paintings, as well as the Surrealists work, which is my favourite of all time. I even bought myself a Salvador Dali book at the museum! So after NY I returned to Savannah and jumped right into my course.

I am taking Poster Illustration this quarter, and our first project was a movie poster. We got to choose any movie that we wanted, and we had to design a poster for it. We got given just over a week to do it, so it was a decent amount of time. For the first project I chose Creep, a British horror movie about an inbred guy who lives in the Underground. He captures people and operates on them etc. It's a pretty cool movie, definitely not for the squeamish.

Below is the original poster for the movie which I like a lot, followed by my finished poster. I am happy with what I came up with, I do wish that I had extended the arm off the page. Maybe a revision is in order when I get some time.

For the next project we had to do a poster for the movie "Died Young Stayed Pretty", a film by Eileen Yaghoobian. It's a movie about rock posters and the artists who create them. I am trying to be more inventive with my illustrations. I really love Surrealism so am trying to take as much as I can from that. Below is my finalised sketch for the project, followed by the color mock up that I will be using. I like to figure out the colors in Photoshop first before I dive into the watercolors.

Desoto Strut

In a weeks time I will be in my first ever gallery show. It is here in Savannah, GA. I have done 3 new pieces for the show. I will be having a large update in a few days once I am done with all my final projects. My life has been rather crazy lately with trying to get things done on time. Below is the flyer for the show:

Soo busy...

Sorry for not updating for a while, have been very busy with school projects. The last one of which was a digital collage. Combining drawn images, textures, text, and many layers in Photoshop! Below is the planning and final image of the project. I am happy with it, as I would love to get into this kind of thing one day! I chose Dimmu Borgir because I am a big fan. I am currently working on some more pieces for a gallery show in 3 weeks. I am very excited as it is my first. There will be multiple other artists, hopefully I can get some sweet shots of the night!

Phelps...

I've finished my Michael Phelps piece, I have posted it below. Next on the agenda for me is a cd cover for one of my favourite bands. I am still trying to decide on a band... But I am thinking Devildriver. This is my next project for electronic illustration. Our next project for editorial is an illustration about lies. Should be interesting. I still have to get to the sketch phase. Today will be filled with drawing for me!

Phelps Progress

I started my Michael Phelps assignment today. At first I was thinking of doing a portrait of him in high contrast, but I didn't end up liking that idea. So I switched to a side view of him looking disappointed. Below is the shot of my process in trying to draw an accurate face. I battle with portraits so it took me a lot of time to try end get it right.

Weekend

Busy weekend ahead of me. I have to start a piece for my editorial class, we're doing celebrity scandals. I have chosen to do Michael Phelps and his bong rip. So will be getting going on that. I also have to complete my first ever electronic illustration for my class. Below is the work in progress, we scanned in the line work and have been working with that. And on top of that I have to almost complete my etching project for printmaking. Hopefully I can get going on that!

Finally... A scanner.

The reason for me not updating my blog as often as I wanted to is that my scanner has for some reason not been working. It's not a very high quality scanner but it is enough for sketches and such in my blog. But now I have managed to get it working, so will be updating more often. Hopefully every day.

Lately I have been noticing that my figure drawing is not up to par. I have to use tons of references and it takes me far too long to get a decent figure in. And even when I can get the figure in, I battle to get a likeliness out of the face. So I have been doing a lot of drawing from life recently. And will probably be doing a lot more. Below are some of the quick sketches I have done over the past 2 days. Don't judge me on these alone!
